Lovevery - Retained packaging design for a multi-component game.
The Wooden Letter Sound Blocks are designed to help children in Pre-K and kindergarten develop their reading skills by teaching them to blend letter sounds. These come with an extension activity called the Skill Tokens, which give kids a chance to test themselves on what they've learned so far.

Designed to be easily recognizable, the lockups on the top and front are readable in a closet or a bin.
The bottom of the lid features an answer key to check your work at each level.
Retained packaging is intended for long term storage and organization. It’s an artifact that people keep alongside the product so it needs to meet the same quality and safety standards as the toys and games it protects. This game presented a unique challenge where several parts of the game were meant to work with parts of the larger group of activities and books that come with The Reading Skill Set.
An early concept for how all of the elements for this game will work as a single visual system.
The packaging is designed to guide parents and their children through the various levels of difficulty presented throughout the game. There are a total of 6 levels each having its own section. These each correspond with a series of books. The bottom of the lid features an answer key to check your work at each level. Adding a rim to the interior of the lid and featuring a large 4C graphic cost-effectively was a challenge to figure out. The solution was to print the graphic using a 4C lithographic process, assemble the lid, and then add the interior rim at the end of the assembly process by using rollover SBS components. ✖

The first layer of the unboxing includes the instructions and a visual overview of the section.
The second layer provides access to all of the game pieces for the main activities.
The final layer presents all of the pieces for the extension activities.
